AFHE Hails $529 Billion in Projected Savings from President Trump’s MFN Drug Pricing Agreements

Americans for Health Excellence (AFHE) issued the following statement in response to the Council of Economic Advisers report projecting $529 billion in savings to the American economy over the next decade—derived from the President’s voluntary Most Favored Nation pricing agreements with 17 leading pharmaceutical manufacturers.

“This is a tremendous win for patients and families, and a testament to the President’s commitment to tackling the high cost of prescription drugs head on,” said Dr. Brad Wenstrup, executive director of AFHE. “The President’s voluntary MFN agreements are already delivering historic savings for American patients—and as the CEA’s own analysis shows, this framework was built hand-in-glove with U.S. trade policy to end the foreign exploitation that has forced American patients to shoulder an unfair share of the world’s pharmaceutical costs – for decades! These agreements are a powerful start. This trade enforcement track is what is delivering positive results for us.”

AFHE will continue pressing to double down on ending the unfairness to America that comes with what many call “foreign freeloading.” We stand with getting other countries to pay their fair share—while advancing commonsense solutions that lower out-of-pocket costs for patients at the pharmacy counter. An example of common sense can be seen in Rep. (Dr.) Greg Murphy’s “Every Dollar Counts Act,” which ensures that every dollar a patient spends on their medicine counts toward their deductible. AFHE will also work to hold insurers and PBMs accountable for the confusion and costs they too often impose on patients while protecting the sanctity of the patient–doctor relationship as the center of the American healthcare experience.

AFHE looks forward to working with the Trump administration, Congress, and other like-minded partners to make healthcare more affordable, transparent, and excellent for every American.
